Having the drive means success in journalism

I think journalism is a challenging career choice, looking at what's happening in newsrooms across the country and the further staff cuts taking place. But it's exciting if you have a personality that is determined, focused and highly adaptable.
Writing and research - how to find information when you need it and in the quickest way possible. And having an appreciation for the journalism side of life now that I'm in public relations has allowed me to provide a different perspective to company spokespersons, directors and colleagues. And my photography skills (even though I was in Print) continue to be used a great deal.
It's important, as it allows a different, unfiltered or less filtered perspective on what is happening in the world. And with the media going more electronic, having a good grasp on the internet and how journalism fits into that can make a journalist more marketable.
