Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy was among the numerous administrator, faculty, support staff and others welcoming 16 students to the inaugural Summer Institute for the Trent-Loyalist Journalism program.

The students recently completed their first academic year at Trent University pursing their individual academic interests for the eight-month period. The student took a brief break before coming to Loyalist College to do an eight-week intensive journalism training session starting on May 6, 2013.

The students moved in the day before and enjoyed a BBQ as part of a welcome event. Loyalist journalism professors Andy Clarke, Marisa Dragani and Robert Washburn attended, along with Karen Maki, from Trent University.

Orientation events took place over the first day with an introduction to the program administration and faculty, followed by a series of brief presentations. Introductory lectures ended early to allow students to go on a shopping excursion organized by the college to get groceries.

Classes got into full swing on May 7, 2013 and end on June 28, 2013.
